What is the difference between consecutive and simultaneous interpreting?
Simultaneous interpreting is usually used during conferences and an interpreter needs to have an access to a booth and special interpreting equipment. In this case, the interpreting is happening at the same time of the original speech with standard time lag of a couple sentences.
Consecutive interpreting means that the interpreter will start interpreting only after the original speech is finished, usually after a couple of minutes. Consecutive interpreters usually take notes during the original speech, while simultaneous interpreters usually do not have time for that.
Should I hire a professional translator or a subject matter expert?
